Ray Dalio, one of the world’s most successful investors and entrepreneurs, cites principles as his key to success.
In 1975, Ray Dalio founded Bridgewater Associates, out of his two-bedroom apartment in New York City. Over forty years later, Bridgewater has grown into the largest hedge fund in the world and the fifth most important private company in the United States (according to Fortune magazine), and Dalio himself has been named to TIME’s list of the 100 most influential people in the world. Along the way Dalio discovered unique principles that have led to his and Bridgewater’s unique success. It is these principles, and not anything special about Dalio, that he believes are the reason behind whatever success he has had. He is now at a stage in his life that he wants to pass these principles along to others for them to judge for themselves and to do whatever they want with them.

You can distinguish between the ideal complaint and complaints meant to lead to imporivement by the tone. The ideal complaint sounds like nasty bitching - like saying “that sucks” - and it doesn’t sound at the end of it like it’s leading to “let’s figure out what we should do to make it better”. The complaint that’s meant to lead to improvement sounds like “that’s bad so let’s figure out how to fix it.
The speed of decision making required influences influences how much time we spend getting in sync more than the time we need to get in sync well determines how fast we so it. By and large we find its easy and quick to get in sync with a few really smart people when that’s required. In other words, we find time to not be much of an issue, though this types of decision making takes a bit longer in the short run than autocratic decision making. However., as it creates agreed up principles and more capable decision makers who are on the same page, it accelerates high quality decision making over the long run.
